Strange Picture (taken at my mother's house)

By this time, most people who read this blog know about the paranormal conditions at my mother's house. The picture we are going to discuss today was taken there by me a few months ago. I don't think anything unusual had been going on in the house during that time. I sometimes just snap a few pictures for later examination and this happens to be one of them that made me go, "Whoa, now what is that?"

Clearly, you can see a white blobby thing in the chair to the right. There are several reasons why I think this is a significant photo and could be spirit-related.

1. Ectoplasm ( a physical manifestation of a ghost/spirit) can appear opaque in photographs. It is common for it to show up in photos but is hard to see with the naked eye.

2. It is all over the chair as if it is "sitting" there. That small brown square thing is actually part of the wooden armrest on the chair and the blobby white thing is all around it. Imagine yourself sitting there with your arm dangling around the arm rest. The way it goes down into the carpet is also interesting.

3. No, no, no it is not a reflection from the window on the other side of the room. Have you ever in your life seen a reflection look like that?

4. No one else was in the room with me when I took the picture. No one was in there blowing cigarette smoke around. There was no fire in the adjacent stove so it is not wood smoke or obviously we would have called the fire department. So you can toss those explanations out the window. And while we're at it, it was not caused by "the wind" ( my all time favorite skeptic-explanation for anything weird or unusual).

So there you have it. A little more compelling evidence to mull over. I can't explain it, you can't explain it and we'll probably never know for sure but I'm going with GHOST.

Unexplained Voices

Lately, I have had a few unusual experiences for which a sane explanation could not be found. I don't think my house has any particular "spirit" or anything like that in it. It seems to be more of a case of someone trying to make contact with me. But I can't be sure so I digress.

Anyway, about two weeks ago, my son, Scott and I were the only two people at home. We were getting ready to leave the house and were in the porch getting our coats on. Scott went downstairs for a moment and then out of the blue I heard a man in our upstairs living room say something. I could not make out what it was, but it was a man's voice and he said a whole sentence. I did not think it was anything unusual and just assumed I had left the tv on, although I was quite sure I had turned it off. So I went to check it out, but the tv was off.

Last week, my husband, Shaun and I went to our favorite Chinese restaurant.

We had a scrumptious dinner and afterwards Shaun went across the room to pay the bill. The restaurant was not particularly busy and not very noisy. Suddenly, and very clearly, I heard a man's voice whisper, "Rebecca!" It seemed to come from only a few feet away from me, not from the other side of the room where Shaun was paying the bill. But I looked in that direction anyway just in case and realized it had not come from there. The voice was a loud whisper, that's the best I can describe it.It didn't come from another diner in the restaurant. I didn't know anyone there and no one was paying attention to me. I asked Shaun about it anyway, in case it had been him but he did not know what I was talking about.

So whoever is doing the talking has my attention...now what?? Show yourselves! (Just not in the middle of the night at the foot of my bed, please and thank you.)

Meanwhile, At The Neighbors....

This particular incident took place at the home of a relative of my mother's a few years ago. Her house is also in Lunenburg County,Nova Scotia, just up the hill from my mother's. And although that house was also very old and had a few ghost sightings in it, that is not what this blurb is about.

The relative (let's call her " Amelia") lived alone in a huge two story house. She had lived there her entire life and at the time this happened, she was probably in her late seventies, but was still perfectly healthy, sane and normal.

Amelia's very good friend (let's call her Joyce, because that was actually her name) was at death's door in the hospital in the next town. Joyce was elderly and had ended up in the hospital and was expected to not live too much longer.

One particular night, Amelia was just getting into bed. Her bedroom was on the second floor. She happened to glance out the window into the darkness and there was Joyce, hovering in mid-air, smiling and waving at Amelia.

(I know this is hard to believe but it is the God's- honest- truth. Amelia never made up a story in her entire life.)

Anyway, the next morning, Amelia got the dreaded phone call informing her that Joyce had died in the night.

I guess she had come by on her way to the after-life to say farewell.

Incidentally, Amelia is the relative I mentioned in another post who on occasion comes to me in dreams to tell me the things she is up to on the "other side". Amelia passed away in 2006.

Update on Paranormal Activity at my Mother's House

Today (July 10, 2012) my mother phoned to tell me of her experience this morning. She was alone in the kitchen and the cat was off somewhere (not anywhere near where the incident happened). These are the only two living breathing people/animals in the house.

Suddenly, she heard a very loud crashing sound in the dining room. She went in to see what could have made such a noise and found that her series of "Green Mile" books ( which she had held together with an elastic band) had come out of the book case and were spread out on the floor in numerical order. She assured me the books had been tightly nestled on the shelf and could not have possibly come loose on their own. She also thinks the noise she heard was much louder than if a few books had somehow hit the floor.

Also, when I was staying there for a few days last week, I heard a voice where there should not have been one. My mother and I were having breakfast at the kitchen table. The only other person in the house was my teenage nephew who was asleep in the living room, and the french door that goes into that room was tightly closed.

Suddenly, I heard a man's voice say a few muffled words. It sounded like it was just beyond the dining room, maybe around the staircase. It was perhaps a short sentence. Trying to be sensical, I thought possibly my nephew was awake and yelling out to us, but he did not wake until quite awhile later, whereupon I asked him if he had said or yelled anything earlier, to which he says he did not.

(Last time I heard a mysterious far away voice in that house, my uncle died a few days later.)

Also last week, my mother, husband and I were watching a movie in the living room one evening. Out of the blue, my mother turned to me and said," Do you smell that? Come over here by me and smell." When I stepped near her, there was quite an undescribable odor. It was not coming from her but seemed to be around and in front of her.

It seemed to be within a 2 foot radius of where she was sitting. She said she had smelled it before one day all throughout the downstairs of the house. On this particular night when I could smell it, too, it lasted for a few minutes and then disappeared. It almost had a strong, musty stench to it, but not really like anything I have ever smelled before. It wasn't damp or moldy, but rather a little foul and antiquated.

Perhaps a visitor from the musty beyond?

Today's Haunted Incident

Today we went to visit my mom at her house, which of course as you know by now, is haunted. I have two incidents to report.

The first did not happen today but my mother told me that about two weeks ago she was sitting in the living room watching tv with my brother. Suddenly, she felt "something" hit her in the eye. She said it wasn't anything hard or rigid but felt more like something soft as if someone might have balled up a paper napkin and tossed it at her face. It did not hurt her, only startled her immensely. She could not see anything that would have caused this, and quickly looked in my brother's direction in case he had seen anything weird happening, but he was asleep in the chair.

The second incident took place today and actually happened to me. Shaun, myself and the two kids were in the kitchen with my mother. It was after supper and we were getting ready to leave when I had to use the bathroom. I laid my cell phone down on the kitchen table right beside Shaun so I would not forget to bring it with me when I left. I was in the bathroom for only a minute but when I came out of the bathroom the phone was not where I had left it on the table. Of course, I questioned everyone but no one had seen the phone. We all looked all around the kitchen for the phone but it was nowhere to be found. (Half jokingly, I said out loud," OK, Willie, you can bring my phone back." If you don't know who Willie is, scroll back to some first posts on here)

My son, Scott decided to send a text message from his phone to mine so we could listen for the "alert" tone my phone makes for incoming messages. Immediately we heard it ringing from the dining room. We found the phone in a coat pocket ( not my coat) that was hanging on a dining room chair.

I had not even been in that room with my phone.

MORE Recent Haunted Events at the Homestead

I have a recent report from my mother (who, as you probably know lives alone in that house) that on Nov. 11 of this year she was sitting at the kitchen table when suddenly the dining room slammed shut. This door does not even close all the way due to many years of paint layered on it, but after the "slamming" it was tightly closed. She went over to the door and it didn't even seem to want to open normally, so she had to push on it hard to get it to open.

She saw nothing unusual on the other side of the door, for those of you who are wondering.

In case you missed previous blog postings of the "activity" in her house, you can find them here:

Contact with the Dead Through Dreams

I had an aunt and uncle who visited me and my family every summer since before I was even born. And every summer, my uncle would make his signature roasted chicken, which was the best I have ever eaten. The recipe was top secret---no one knew how he made it or what went into the recipe.

A few years ago, both my aunt and uncle died. Shortly afterwards, I began dreaming about them on a regular basis, like maybe once or twice a week, every week.

A while back, I got to thinking about the chicken recipe and how much my husband would love it, but I had no idea how to make it. I emailed my uncle's daughter, thinking she might know how he did it, but she was very vague and not much help.

So I decided to put the "contact" dreams to use and one night before bed, I said aloud to my uncle that I wanted him to come to me in a dream and tell me how to make his outstanding chicken recipe.

That very night (I kid you not) I dreamed that I was outside in my flower garden and my uncle drove up in a car. He got out, we said hello and the next words out of his mouth were," To make the chicken, this is what you do...." And he proceeded to tell me what went in the recipe!

P.S. I also dream a LOT about a great aunt who has died. In those dreams, she always tells me how she is doing and what she is up to "on the other side". It's very cool!!
